Before you agree

What to ask a provider before you decide

You can take your time. These questions help you weigh a treatment before you commit to anything.

Your consultation question list

Print it, save it to your phone, or copy it into a note.

  • What are your qualifications, and who else might treat me?
  • Where did you train for this procedure?
  • Which product or device do you use?
  • What should I expect over a full series?
  • How should I care for the area afterward?
  • What side effects are common, and which are rare?
  • How do you handle problems if they come up?
  • What will I pay in total, and is it in writing?

What to bring or write down

A little preparation makes a consultation more useful. Before you go, write down:

  • Any medical conditions, past or current.
  • Medications and supplements you take.
  • Allergies, including to anesthetics or skin products.
  • Past cosmetic treatments and when you had them.
  • What you hope to talk about, in your own words.

Bring your list of questions and a way to take notes.

Take your time

There is rarely a good reason to decide about a cosmetic treatment in a single visit. If a provider pushes you to book that day, that tells you something.

Other signs to slow down: no consultation, vague answers about who performs the treatment, or no written cost. You can look up most health licenses on the Colorado state board website. A provider who is properly licensed will usually tell you their license type and number if you ask.

A licensed provider decides what is suitable for you. Send a request to begin that conversation.
